Kelly Kobus, A Piece O' Cake Owner & Designer

Kelly has always had a passion for baking and design, a passion that surfaced continually during her time at Albion College. Photography class had her snapping more shots of food than faces and rather than trekking through the snow to the cafeteria, her roommates found themselves eating warm scones for breakfast.

But it was Kelly's French studies and the year she spent studying abroad that truly reinforced her creative passion for food. When she was not taking classes at the University, she was busy working on the degree of a gourmande. During that time, she took several classes at Le Cordon Bleu and later attended sessions held by Laure Maso, a professional chef who studied at the Ritz Escoffier School.

Upon returning to the states, Kelly met Denene Vincent, the Executive Chef and Owner of Le Chat Gourmet in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Denene and Kelly instantly "clicked" and Denene agreed to take on her first intern. Denene is trained in classical French cuisine and the more Kelly learned about cooking and baking, the more Kelly's passion grew.

It was this passion that led Kelly to A Piece O′Cake! She is very proud of her work and values the support and confidence of A Piece O' Cake's loyal customers.

Bon Appetit!

John and Wendy, A Piece O' Cake Entrepreneurial Inspiration

John and Wendy are Kelly's parents. John knows what it is like to have a true family business. His father started the Colonial Bar & Grille in Lansing in 1965. John has been the owner for quite some time, with his parents still lending their support. It was no surprise to John and Wendy when Kelly wanted to have a business of her own. John and Wendy know the importance of family support and they play a vital role in running the business. The Kobus' have always had a passion for baking, something that they always enjoy doing together. Johnny and Chelsea, Kelly's younger siblings are also no stranger to A Piece O' Cake. They are often seen pitching-in wherever needed! If you stop by after lunch, you might see Grandma and Grandpa. They often stop by for their dessert!
